The intrinsic properties of some materials, such as foams, porous materials and granular materials, are their ability to mitigation waves. In this study, we investigated the ability of granular materials in explosion-induced wave mitigation. The present study was carried out using numerical simulations with Autodyn hydro-code and experimental tests by shock tube. Two materials of sawdust and mineral powders were used as granular materials in the sandwich panel core, whose properties were also obtained by several pressure tests. There are many mechanisms in the granular materials, such as compacting (such as sawdust) and crushing (such as pumice) that mitigate the energy generated by the explosion. The results show that the use of low core thickness can not be effective, but works well in higher thicknesses. The use of these materials in some cases reduces up to 88% of the explosion wave.
