Abstract

Guanylurea dinitramide is regarded as one of the most important dinitramide salts with low sensitivity and proper efficiency. Dinitramide salts such as Ammonium dinitramide and Guanylurea dinitramide can be used as oxidizing agents inrocket, guns and gas-producing propellant formulations. Besides, the application of these materials with smaller particle size my result in the higher efficiency of the composites due to the increase in their surface amount as well as the correction of the related defects in their crystal structures. In this study, Guanylurea dinitramide was obtained from potassium sulfamate salt (40% yield), and then it was characterized. For the preparation of the particles under 20 microns for use in gun propellants, the solvent/anti-solvent crystallization method was taken in to account. Furthermore, influential factors on the size and shape of the particles (e.g., concentrations, purity of anti-solvent, effect of freezing, and type of drying) were investigated using scanning electron microscopy images, and subsequently some particle size in the range of 20 microns to 300 nm were produced.
