A composite explosive based on PETN and two-component silicone resin (80:20) with the ability to cure at room temperature (RTV-2) were prepared using a solar mixer. Commercial resins were from Germany, Turkey and China. The particle size distribution of PETN was 100-300 microns. The interaction of the PETN with resins was studied by FT-IR spectroscopy. The thermal behavior, impact sensitivity, friction sensitivity, electrostatic sensitivity, and vacuum thermal stability (VTS) of the prepared sample were investigated and compared with the reference material PBXN-301 (PETN and Sylgard 182). The percentage of elongation, strength to tear, and modulus of elasticity of the prepared samples were measured. The composite explosive prepared with M4511 resin showed the best mechanical stress-strain properties with elongation 130 – 180%. Also, impact sensitivity 7.5 J, friction sensitivity 64-68 N, electrostatic sensitivity 75.7 mJ and VTS 0.092 ml/g at 100 oC were obtained that were compared to the properties of PBXN-301. The composite of PETN – M4511 resin showed better elongation but weaker strength versus PBXN-301.
