Abstract:   (293 Views)
Copper β-resorcylate (CuR2), lead β-resorcylate (PbR2), and lead oxide (PbO) are among the most widely used compounds as Ballistic Modifiers Therefore, their identification and determination of them in double based solid propellants (DB propellants) will be of great importance in propellants formulation. So, in this study a direct and validate spectrophotometric method was described for the simultaneous determination of CuR2, PbR2, and PbO in DB propellants. The method is based on application of three calibration sets. In the first set, the amount of CuR2 was determined based on complex formation of Cu (II) with DDTC and absorbance measurement at 445 nm. In the second set, the amount of total lead was determined based on complex formation of Pb (II) with PAR reagent and absorbance measurement at 520 nm. Finally, in third set, from hydrolysis of CuR2 and PbR2 in acetic acid media, the released resorcylic acid was determined via complex formation of with Fe(III) and absorbance measurement at 526 nm. Therefore, according to the obtained data for the resorcylic acid and the obtained data from the calibration curve for the CuR2 in the first set, the amount of PbR2 was determined by using stoichiometric relations. Finally, the amount of PbO in DB was calculated from the obtained data for total lead in second set and obtained PbR2. The proposed method was successfully applied to the determination of CuR2, PbR2 and PbO in DB propellants. The method statistically compared with ICP-AES method. There is no significant difference between the results obtained for the developed method and the ICP-AES method at the 95% confidence level.
