In this paper, three models of hardened steel projectiles including ogival, 4 and 8 grooves projectiles with a caliber of 12.7 mm were numerically and experimentally investigated and the effect of geometry and groove on the penetration depth in plain concrete target were investigated. The results showed that by increasing the number of grooves on the projectile, the depth of penetration in the concrete target increases and this problem is evident at higher speeds(maximum was 14%).In addition the presence of grooves has no considerable effect on crater diameter(maximum 2.5%).
