The Need to Reduce Costs and Environmental Pollution of Space Launchers Requires Reconsideration of the Use of Solid Propellants Based on Ammonium Perchlorate (AP). Ammonium Nitrate (AN) is a Well-Known Energetic Material that is Used as a Chlorine-Free Oxidizer for Substituting Ammonium Perchlorate in Composite and New Generation of Gas-Generating Compositions for Airbag Inflators. In this Work, Nitrogen-Rich Organic Compound, 2,4,6-tris(hydroxylamine)-s-triazine (THAT) Synthesis, Thermal Behavior and its Effect on Phase Transitions and Thermal Decomposition of AN Were Investigated. Different Percentages of AN/THAT, i.e., 0.99:0.1(1%), 0.975:0.025 (2.5%), 0.95:0.05 (5%), and 0.925:0.075 (7.5%) Were Prepared by the Mechanical Methods, and Their Phase Transition and Thermal Decomposition have been Studied by TG-DSC. XRD, 1H-NMR and FT-IR Techniques Were Used to Identify the Synthesized Compound. To Investigate the Interactions Between AN and THAT, XRD, 1H-NMR, and FT-IR Techniques Were Used. The Results Showed that, THAT, Despite its Low Weight Percentage, Stabilizes AN by Removing the ANIV↔ANIII Phase Transition.
