Binders are one of the most key components in the structure of solid composite propellants used in military industries and space research. In this research, PPG-PTHF-PPG triblock copolymer was synthesized as a binder using Polytetrahydrofurane as an initiator and Propylene Oxide monomer through the cationic ring-opening mechanism with a suitable molecular mass and a high efficiency percentage. The synthesized copolymer was investigated and identified with devices such as IR, NMR, GPC and DSC. In the following, the optimal conditions for copolymer synthesis, including the choice of solvent type, the amount of selected solvent, the amount of catalyst, and the duration of the reaction were investigated. After the steps of copolymer synthesis, the curing of the copolymer was tested with different isocyanate curing agents so, the optimal amounts of curing catalyst, chain extender and R (a mixture of isocyanate agents N-100 and IPDI) were obtained. By preparing dumbbell-shaped elastomers, the mechanical properties of elastomers were also evaluated, which resulted in an 80% increase in elongation compared to the HTPB sample.
