In this research the two dimensional grain burn-back, based on improved level set method is studied. In the first step, the distance function is evaluated according to creation of an unstructured grid in the inner surface and Cartesian structured grid in the outer surface of the grain. Then, with derivation of final form of the level set equations, the solid propellant burning area and port area is calculated in any time step. In the second step, the calculation of slivers is added and for reduction of CPU time, solution algorithm is improved in the five steps. Comparison of results in cylindrical, quad, hexahedron and star grains with the exact solutions and basic level set method, prove that the present algorithm results are in very good agreement with exact solutions, faster and more accurate than the basic level set method and quite successful in calculation of slivers.
