Titanium (IV) oxide as a burning rate catalyst is commonly used in some of the solid composite propellants. As the particle size of this component decreases, the final properties of the propellant will be changed. In this research, effects of using submicron titanium oxide, up to 0.5 percent by weight, have been investigated on properties of an HTPB/AP/Al propellant. TiO2 powder has relatively spherical shape with a diameter of 300 nm. The rheological investigation performed on the propellant slurry showed that as TiO2 particles content increased, the end of mix viscosity will be increased while pot-life has been limited. Tensile strength and elastic modulus increased by adding TiO2, whereas the elongation reduced about 20%. Burning rate of propellant increased by an average of about 5% by adding 0.5% TiO2 particles. Also temperature sensitivity of formulations containing TiO2 were less than sample without catalyst. Sample having 0.1% by weight of TiO2 has the lowest temperature sensitivity.
